What are these tiny white bugs in my house?

Ehrlich Answers

"I keep spotting tiny little white bugs around the house, even in the bathroom. What could they be?"

Finding tiny white bugs in the house can be unsettling, especially when you don’t know what they are. Most of the time, these bugs will be psocids (sometimes called psocid mites) or springtails. Psocids are small, pale insects that thrive in damp areas like kitchens, basements, or bathrooms. You may also notice them as tiny ant-like bugs in the bathroom, especially near sinks, showers, or around leaky pipes.

Other possibilities include:

  • Tiny yellow bugs in the house – sometimes booklice or mites.
  • Tiny tan bugs – could be carpet beetle larvae
  • Small, clear bugs – often immature stages of household pests, or springtails and mites

Moisture is usually the main reason these pests appear indoors. Bathrooms, basements, and kitchens are common hotspots because of the humidity. While most of these insects are harmless to people, their presence is a sign of excess moisture, which can lead to other pest problems. Our moisture control services can help.

Vacuuming and reducing humidity may help in the short term, but if you continue to see tiny white bugs or any of their lookalikes, our pest control technicians can identify the exact pest and apply the right treatment to help protect your home.
