Yes, Georgia does have scorpions, though they’re not as common as in desert states. The two species you’re most likely to see are the southern devil scorpion and the striped bark scorpion. Both are small, usually less than three inches long, and are more often found in rural and wooded areas, but they can sometimes turn up in basements, crawl spaces, or bathrooms.
Georgia’s scorpions are not considered especially dangerous, though they can sting and are venomous, and that sting can be painful. Scorpion stings in Georgia aren’t usually a cause for concern for healthy adults. Children and those with preexisting medical conditions or allergies to the venom might be at risk, however. If you’ve been stung by a scorpion and you’re worried about symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.
If you’ve spotted a scorpion in your home, it may indicate gaps or cracks around windows, doors, or foundations. It's a good idea to take actions like sealing entry points; Ehrlich’s pest control technicians can help with that. Book your free inspection to get started.
